“If we love our job, we don’t have to work a second in our lives.”

This adage is somehow familiar to the working class in our society but do we really understand the meaning of this. Or more meaningfully, can we really love our jobs that much that the performance of them is always a delight to our lives.

Our jobs consume a big chunk of our time. We spent 40 hours of every week in the work place. Sometimes, we even have to work on Saturdays. Sometimes, we also have to attend to work-related activities like seminars, conventions and trainings.

The daily struggles of our jobs consumes mostly the time that we have every day. Some parts of our jobs are even brought home when we have a lot to do and when we are nearing the deadline.

Basically, our jobs are important part of our lives as much as we are a part of our jobs.

Consequently, in this kind of set up there is a challenge in terms of our work and life balance. We are faced with the hurdle of making time for everything so we can address every aspect in our lives.

All we can do is to learn to love our jobs. We should appreciate the little joys in our work. We should celebrate all triumph. We should enjoy even the most regular task. Most especially that we are in government service, where monotonous activities are numerous. The challenge for public service seems to be more pronounced since the nature of our work in the daily basis is just a cycle and iterative.

That is why applying the maxim will surely bring positive effect in our work and life environment. It is true that we can work to the best of our ability only when we love what we do. And we have to love what we do at work to come up with the best results.

It is a process that goes hand and hand can only reap good results if we commit ourselves to it. It is because only when we love our job that we put our best effort in everything we do. And it is only when we do our best that we get reward. Ultimately, it is the most rewarding when we get our jobs done with hearts full of love.
