Last May 9, 2016, we exercised our right to vote and voted for the person who deserved to become the leader of this country. Six of the candidates ran for the position, they were: Roy Señeres, Miriam Defensor Santiago, Jejomar Binay, Grace Poe, Mar Roxas and Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who placed from sixth to first.

Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte emerged victorious with more than 16 million votes, hence proclaimed as the new president of the Philippines for the next six years. These votes represented the hope of Filipinos for change. One of his promises during his campaign was to lessen crime, drugs and corruption in the government. This was seen on his first 100 days as the new president. Drug pushers and users voluntarily surrendered. Also in his administration, new laws were implemented.

It is said that there are more than thirty new laws that are already implemented in our country. One of the laws that are implemented is the Republic Act 10909. Republic Act 10909 - Exact Change is one of the laws that are already signed by the President, this law states that you need to give the exact change and put the price tag on the product that you are selling to know the exact amount intended for it. Another law that has been implemented since August 16, 2016 is the Republic Act 10911 or Anti-age discrimination, it states in this law that the applicant should have no age requirement when you are applying for the job, and the age is not excuse for promotion and benefits that the employee should have. (Mogato, 2016)

One of the most improved actions of the Duterte Administration is the establishment of hotline for emergency calls to made it easier to access, a person in need will just dial 911 and an operator will assist them right away in the emergency cases, and if they have complaint in government agencies and other concerns regarding the work of the government, just dial 8888 and their complaint will be processed immediately and if the need arise, it will be directed to the Office of the President, this action aims to dissolve graft and corruption in the government.

In every change we implement, there will always be retaliation. Just like in this new change, some are in favor while some are not. But either way, change has come; Filipinos just need to look at the brighter side of the new administration’s action. Soon, the Philippines will change to become a better country just like a caterpillar that undergoes metamorphosis to become a beautiful butterfly. As the saying says, “The only thing that is constant is change, so you have to learn to embrace it”.
