Balanga Holds 3-Day DSPC

DepEd Balanga City held a 3-day Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) joined by some young campus journalists and school paper advisers from private and public elementary and secondary schools at Balanga Elementary School Friendship Hall, July 31- August 3, 2009. The conference aims to enhance journalistic competencies through friendly individual and group competitions. It also promotes awareness and understanding of climate change through varied journalistic approaches and moreso, demonstrates commitment to support programs and advocates for community initiatives to ward off its negative effects. During the opening ceremony, Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique S. Garcia III encouraged the competitors to always give their best. “Continue your quest for excellence and prove that Balanguenos are world class,” he said. Jessie D. Ferrer, assistant Schools Division Superintendent officer-in -charge shared his experiences as a campus journalist. “Use your journalistic skills in updating your fellow men through responsible journalism,” he advised. English supervisor, Felicisima R. Oria and Filipino supervisor, Corazon T. Lopez, delivered the orientation. Oria said that professionals and resource persons from local press organizations and the academe served as the judge/lecturer and shared their expertise in news writing, editorial writing and cartooning, copy reading and headline writing, sports writing, photo journalism, feature writing and script writing and radio broadcasting. They were Ernie B. Escode, Pat Villanueva, Sergio Ontuca, Ariel Llansang and Joel Guileb. Leonardo D. Zapanta, OIC to the office of ASDS, told the participants, “Stick to integrity and write only what is true.” “All the winners from the first to the third placer will represent the division to the forthcoming Regional Schools Press Conference to be held at Gapan, Nueva Ecija,” Corazon T. Lopez concluded.
