Studying While Working

I was raised in a simple family where you have to think about many things just to become productive. My father was a farmer while my mother was a simple housewife. I must say that my parents did everything to give us a bright future. My father always tells me, “Edukasyon lang ang kaya kong ibigay sa inyo” and that was probably the main reason why I wanted to finish my studies.

For some students, life was very easy. They have parents who can provide everything they need. They have all the resources they can use to make their studies easier.

Nevertheless, I am still proud to say that I was once a Student Assistant. I was assigned to different departments of the school. It was not easy because you have to possess good time-management skills. Those skills require you to demonstrate that you are matured, independent and responsible individual. But since I was a teenager and a student that time, I can’t help but asked myself “ Am I open to cutting down on some activities I like to do to fulfill my work and school commitments?” and “Can I fit in work and maintain my grades?”

Later on, I realized the answer to those questions: balance. As a working student, you have to balance your time. There must be a time for work and for leisure. It’s up to you how to manage your time but be certain that you can do what is more important to attain your goal. I can do office work, school assignment and reports, extracurricular activities but most importantly spend time to my family and friends.

Being a Student Assistant for four (4) years in college was not easy. It was challenging yet exciting. Challenging because you are bound to accept any inevitable things and situations that might happen. Also, I found it exciting because many opportunities might knock on my door when I graduate.

To sum it up, I realized that working while studying taught me one important lesson: be responsible. We have to be accountable to everything that we do and take responsibility on what we do. May it be in making choices or taking actions for it will determine our success.
