It is where all the magic begins for a child—where they start to envision the plot, characters and setting of a story. Love for stories is innate to children and as they get older, the complexity of stories and genres differ for they have developed their very own unique taste in choosing what they want to read. Moreover, storytelling is one of the most inimitable ways to teach morals and other cultures.
However, as the millennia of technology peaked, reading on paper became outdated as children started to get hooked on their mobile phones wherein, they could just simply pull out anything from the world wide web. In fact, back in December 2007, Wattpad—a storytelling platform which is composed of an internet community who also has the same love for reading and as well, writing—rose to fame by accumulating over 70 million users. In the other hand, this storytelling platform also has it pitfalls. Since anyone could just upload their material, not much of gatekeeping is done. In lieu, stories with twisted or unverified facts could reach this over 70 million users.
The very advantage of this digital storytelling initiative is that since the 21st century learners are more engulfed to read on their screen compared on paper, educators might as well use this and include songs, photos or videos in order to further stimulate the senses of the learners. Learning is multisensory and we, ipso facto, rely on our senses to process information when we are learning. So, the coordination of multiple senses allows us to have more cognitive connections in storing the knowledge into a concept.
