LEARNING STYLES OF STUDENT

The objective of Philippine education particularly in Mathematics instructions as stipulated in the Department Order # 31, s.2012 is to demonstrate understanding and skills in computing with considerable speed and accuracy . It involves key concepts and principles of making connections number sense, measurement, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics as applied, using appropriate technology, in critical thinking, problem-solving, reasoning, communicating, making connections and decisions in real life. This goal may be far from achieving it if problems on students’ low achievement in Mathematics continue to exist.

Recent trends in education have focused on the K to 12 Curriculum, to address the issue of boredom and lack of interest of students in Mathematics subject. which many have dreaded it, studies revealed. Based on their Grade Point Average, students are not pairing well in this subject. Being aware of this situation, teachers must find ways to improve the achievement level of students, One factor that may be attributed to this situation is the learning styles of students.

Many studies of experts suggest and recommend to observe and analyze students’ learning styles. Among the styles they recommended to be observed are the visual, aural, kinesthetic, haptic. and olfactory.

Visual learners are the students who need to see the teachers’ body language and facial expression. Haptic Learners on the other hand, are students who learns fast through using the sense of touch in the literal way such as drawing and model building.

Kinesthetic learners are students who enjoy working with his or her hands or the entire body movement The learners can be given activities to be .physically active., Examples are dancing, role modeling and other moving activities. If the teacher can give activities through their learning styles, math and other subjects will attain increased achievement.
