According to many, one of the best ways to manage our organization is to know our people well. The personality we have affects how we deal with a number of individuals every day from all walks of life. However, most often even if we thought we have been doing our best in leading our people. There will always be someone from the group who will not appreciate what we thought is the best decision for them or for the given crisis at the moment. Ironic, isn’t it? Why and how does it happen? It is because other people are inconsiderate and irrational. Instead of being part of the solution, they choose to be one of the problems. What can you do then as a leader? We have no choice but to remain calm and understanding.

Henry Fayol once said that in managing an organization, a manager should practice unity of direction. Hence, before the start of every school year, the goals and objectives as well as on how things will be done, processed, and performed should be communicated to all the members. Let them lay down their comments and suggestions. Let those ideas be conferred within the group and form a draft to be approved by the whole body. In doing so, when time gets tough that you do not have any choice but to make urgent decisions and actions, it would be easier for the whole team to understand and accept a bad circumstance.

A school manager has to make numerous plans and quick decisions from time to time yet, when he fails to do something or when he has wrong action, he is immediately judged by his subordinates. They will never forget the time when you inevitably hurt them but will surely not remember the many times they answer you back or deliberately test your emotions. What is more disappointing is the furious outburst in the social media, yet we opt to remain firm and steadfast. Focus on what really needs attention. Keep our goals and objectives in one piece.

We may not be able to reach the shore all at the same time, but we should not stop hoping for our team to take the same direction to reach not only our aspirations but most importantly the aim of the Department.
