Why Educators will Succeed with Social Media

The social media platform shows us time and time again how important it is to build a network and develop a presence. These platforms devoted themselves to keep us updated and sharing us information all around the globe. These social media channels were created to give us a voice and if we don’t use it wisely, we will miss out the biggest opportunity. If no one knows who you are, how can you influence others? As we face the crisis of the global pandemic COVID-19, we can continue learning and succeeding through the help of social media.
Although students are now connected in social media education, it can also be a platform where cyberbullying takes place. In reality, not all teachers use social networks that is why it is a challenge now to incorporate lessons in it. There are so many gray areas for teachers to discover, like setting guidelines, accessibility at home, and student’s safety. But teachers need to adapt to this new normal and ever-changing landscape of social media networks.
Here are the ways to use social media networks to interact with the young minds of the students. We can see the educators are now challenged to use social media technologies to level up the overall teaching-learning process. Google, a search engine platform provides all kinds of information that will help students in their self-study. Teachers can use their YouTube, Twitter or Facebook or even messaging service application such as WhatsApp, Zoom and Google Meet to hold live teaching sessions, offer an extended support to students thereby enhancing the scope of their learning beyond classroom hours. Faculty can create pages or groups using social media where informative post can be accessed by all. It is a good platform for sharing for brainstorming and sharing ideas. Use hashtags to increase outreach of their academic post and assess the level of engagement of the students. Step by step, learning through social media can become an integral part of every student’s life.
Social media networks are empowering students and educational institutions with opportunities to improve teaching-learning process. Through social networks, it is easier and convenient to exchange information, communicate with each other and stay connected. Social media can also be a medium where student can establish beneficial connections for educational purpose. Social media is a crucial factor in the success of educators and students, continuing our daily lives amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as well.
