Whether you agree or not, a common source of stress for students/teenagers is peer pressure.

In my mind, it’s a feeling of being pushed to do what other people your age is doing. Peer Pressure can affect how you dress, what you say and do, what music you listen to and how you spend your leisure time.

During the teen years, as you struggle to find an identity apart from your family, the pressure to have others accept you, can be intense. This pressure often causes stress, most especially when it involves doing something contrary to your values such as smoking, drinking, taking drugs or indulging into sex.

As your teacher, here’s what I can say…….

Be “firm and confident” in your own judgement.

Discuss some of the ways in which you are experiencing peer pressure. If you don’t feel comfortable discussing such subjects with your parents, talk to a trusted adult.

Not minding peer pressure of any form, is perhaps the single most important source of stress in a teenager’s life, LEARN TO DEAL IT!

Here now comes, why your values in life must stand up. When you are certain of your own values, then you will be able to explain to your peers why you don’t want to do, what they want you to do. Well, it may be quite emotional and in some extent painful. Wherein probably you may have to give-up certain friends or group of friends you’ve ever had even before.

But don’t be sad my dear students……

You may have to SEEK OTHERS WHO ARE MORE LIKE YOU!
