Education technology is intended to promote education through utilization, development and organization of resources to be used in learning. Prezi, Photoscape, Schoology, and Google docs are some of online resources that can be used in teaching. Both private and public schools agreed to implement this kind of teaching method inside the classroom. Nowadays, students are already interested and engaged in using technology. For this reason, it creates opportunities that will give benefits not only for the institution but for the teachers as well. Technology makes the teaching and learning experiences more effective. But is it really necessary to integrate technology in education? What are the advantages and disadvantages of education technology?

First, it provides a number of benefits for teachers and students. We all know how beneficial technology is. The invention of computer has proven its efficacy not only for every individual but for the society as well. It helps us in making our job easier. Students can do research by using this technology without the need of going to the library. Teachers can also look for structural materials online without making on their own. However, this way confirmed that man no longer needs to think. As an illustration, let us considered a calculator. A calculator is a good invention, but a man doesn’t need to make mental calculation and work with his memory.

Second, it improves engagement. Students are more interested to study their subjects if technology is integrated into lessons. Technology provides a more fun and enjoyable teaching and learning opportunities in some ways. It also encourages students to participate more actively which can help them with their learning process and also makes learners disconnected from the real world. Teachers are busy in educating their students with its online education tools instead of communicating with them verbally and that makes them unable to interact with their teachers and share their problems to overcome it. In other words, teachers actually fail to get student’s attention. To avoid these problem teachers should always use verbal communications along with online education tools so that their students can learn the topics along with proper interactions.

Third, students can acquire learning skills with the help of technology. By using technology in the classroom, both teachers and students can develop skills. Students can gain the skills they will need so as to be successful in the future. Modern learning is about collaborating with others, solving complex problems, critical thinking, developing different forms of communication and leadership skills, and improving motivation and productivity. These are some of important skills that can be developed inside the classroom. Although this may be true, students become more and more reliant to technology. Based on research, relying completely on technology creates poor study habits. For instance, students tend to keep browsing websites to find the shortest possible way to solve Mathematical problems instead of solving it in a traditional way which can help them to gain in-depth knowledge of the said subject. Even spell-checkers avert them from learning the correct spelling thus resulting countless spelling mistakes.

In conclusion, we have to admit that technology has its own advantages and disadvantages. True indeed that technology helps us to connect with our students and helps us to look for instructional materials easily and effectively. But we must also need to consider the fact that technology inside the classroom will not be as effective without the teacher’s effort. Technology is very powerful and useful but it can also ruin your life with its negative features especially if not properly used.
