Date posted: July 20, 2020In life, there are no U-turns, there are no take-backs, and we can only live it once.
This mantra is certainly useful and applicable in life as much as it is performing our jobs.
In this world, we do our best to avoid failures. Failures, which require repetitions, repetitions which consumes additional time and effort, forces us to go through the same process all over again. And certainly all the repeats that we take are always with consequences or in the work place all the repeats always incur additional cost.
Relative to this, in the performance of our jobs the same mantra can be really useful and cost-efficient. Well, we can repeatedly do our tasks but always with equivalent amount of time and money.
This is where the power of review can be really applicable and beneficial in the work place.
The power of review is best emphasized when we took all kinds of tests or exam. Review makes us equipped with the necessary and a lot of extra weapons come battle time. The amount time and effort that we put into the review process oftentimes than not determines the success of our examinations. But isn’t taking exams in the same context as doing our daily tasks at work? Yes, it is most certainly the same. Our daily tasks are free-flowing test of efficiency and effectively, also under the time pressure. So if we look at it closely, the grind at work is a microcosm of the bigger picture of our time-pressured lives.
To be more specific, let me cite a specific scenario. We all have that experience of being in so much regret because we did not review our work enough that we did not make the cut or even failed dramatically.
At most times, because of time pressure we tend to overlooked important minute details in the performance of our jobs. Also, the element of time makes us careless and forgets to review our work which sometime leads to undesirable inconveniences.
So basically, the lesson that we should always remember is to take time to review our work. We should always make it a point to go through the minute details of our task to make sure nothing is amiss. Like, in taking exams we should be extra careful because a single misstep can always lead to a total disaster.
Certainly, there is nothing wrong with being extra cautious especially if it assures us of the best results, be it in the tests we are taking or tasks we are doing and even in life, generally.
In conclusion, no matter how hard we try we will certainly commit mistakes in this life time of no U-turns, take backs and no repeats. But we can always do our best to lessen the impact of each mistake by being strategically cautious with our actions that’s the only way we can live with no regrets.
