“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”- Malcom.

This quotation about education is very useful and gives very important meaning especially to the young generation.

Children in the urban areas are very lucky to have access to improved and quality education. They are equipped with good facilities, instructional materials, and competent teachers. However, children from remote areas hardly get proper education. Teachers have restricted access in educating the youth due to poor laboratories and facilities, outdated books, and limited sources of educational materials. Because of these, we can say that education in our country today needs to improve. Government should give emphasis and focus on this issue in order to help children in remote areas finish their studies and to lessen uneducated children.

Today, we can see that DepEd sees to it that all Filipino children both in urban and rural areas could get proper education. Because of this, the EFA and K-12 Curriculum make way in our country.

According to the book “Handbook in Legal Bases of Philippine Education”, Philippine education is at crossroads. It continually adapts to changing times. By doing so, we must be guided by the Millennium Development Goals and the Education for All (EFA) Program wherein one of the very important goals is to achieve universal primary education. The target is to ensure that by year 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete full course of primary schooling. Countries should further strive to ensure complete access to primary schools or equivalent level of education by girls and boys as quickly as possible.

Another major leap in Philippine Education is the implementation of K-12 Curriculum. Based on the source, “ICEF Monitor”, It aims to provide every Filipino child with the education he/she needs in order to compete in a global context. With the new 12-year curriculum in place, future Filipino students will be ready and better equipped to join overseas universities at the undergraduate level. The goal of the new curriculum is to give Filipino students enough time to master skills and concepts so that they would ready for tertiary education when the time comes.

Because of these, education can truly take us anywhere. We should take it seriously because it is for our future. It is our passport to go beyond ourselves. It can help us meet our goals in life. Without good education, we will not be prepared for the future… because future is made for the people who are prepared for it.
