A Good History from His Story

I am teaching Araling Panlipunan or History to others. For years in this vocation, I must say I have numerous experiences and stories to tell but recently, I realized that the stories I share to the class regarding the lesson is actually shaping and molding my own history in the school. Every year is a new dynasty or colony (section). I meet different people almost every day with various culture, traditions, beliefs, and customs similar to what I teach in my subject.

In furtherance, I was able to personally witness the life stories of my students. Most of the times, their class performances as well as their behaviors were highly affected by the way they were brought up and their economic status. Thus, a teacher must not only be knowledgeable of the subject he teaches but also of his students.

Additionally, one has to find time to listen. Sometimes, what a student needs is someone to talk to. By doing so, they would feel important. As a result, they would be inspired to continue in spite of the difficulties they are experiencing.

In short, we should open our eyes to see what the current needs of our students are, lend our ears to hear what they call for, extend our hands to save them from their fall, and open our lips to tell “his story” in order for others to fully understand him. From that, we would have something good to look back on for we know we did our best to save and serve him.
