How do we hone their choices so that they won’t commit mistakes? Are we the teacher that the community wants us to become for our students? Or do we often neglect and forget the sacred responsibility of teachers who ought to work beyond what class hours.
Over the years there had been a drastic change in the cycle of generations down to the present days. Statistics says that it is alarming that there are a lot of students who mistakenly choose the wrong path instead of the one that leads to success. It is evident that there should be a constant guidance from home up to school in reminding and walking with students to lead them to the right tract.
In an interview that I had on my students it is unfortunate that there are a lot of their friends who went astray. A lot of students now a days are blinded of their youth. They chose temporary happiness to conform with their peers and community. They don’t know how to determine which one is the best among all of their choices.
There are a couple of things that we can do. First encourage them to make a list of what is really important to them and let them look for ways on how to read it every time they need motivation. Through doing so it will invigorate their desire to move forward because they will be reminded of their purpose on why they are doing what they are doing in schools.
Second encourage them to be flexible. Be flexible in the midst of hardships and tribulations. Life is full of challenges and often times not a bed of roses so we have to be flexible. A student should be able to surpass all of it to reach the perfect destination. Encourage them to always take heed to the counsel of the right people that will influence them to do the right things. Help them and encourage them that they can be immovable once they have a perfect mindset of what is really important and that they can surpass whatever life has for them.
Lastly encourage them to have self-assessment or evaluation before the day ends. Each individual has imperfect and has a weakness that needs to work out. Each day is different from the others and it is important to have self-assessment if students are still on the right tract or if they have to pause for a bit and get back on tract. It serves as a turning point of measuring oneself on how is he or she is doing and what are the things that needs to be done.
There are a lot of things that we can do for our students and that we should not turn our backs but rather be the person that can lead and guide them to where they need to be.
