ICT: As Technology Evolves, Language and Literacy Education Improves

        The advent of technology brought many changes in Education. Educators need to keep themselves abreast on modern technologies to maintain the equilibrium between the cyber skill of the pupils and theirs too. It gives advanced information due to their constant access to information linkages and most often, the teachers are left behind in terms of technology and therefore, the pupils tend to more knowledgeable.

            ICT literacy defines as the use of appropriate tools to develop and demonstrate learning skills. It enables student to use technologies in all phases of the learning process including exploration, analysis and production. It does not seek to replace the teachers from their classroom but, rather it provides powerful tools and ample resources available to support teaching. It helps the teachers incorporate new learning theories and pedagogies such as active learning, knowledge construction, cooperative learning and guided discovery in classrooms. Moreover, it allows access to expanded resources thus, it frees students and teachers from mundane tasks so that, they can focus on activities that promote greater collaboration, more-in-depth study and critical-thinking skills.

            We consider the curriculum, teaching styles of the teacher and the type of learners in anchoring technology to our future classrooms. Teaching should not just use digital gadgets for the sake of prestige and status symbol. It should be planned well and should really bring direct and rapid growth in information-gathering skill. Technologies help teachers develop new learning environments and experiences. The type of learning experiences that the teachers create in the classrooms will determine the type of technologies that the students use.

            However, the five-stage continuum of technology integration like entry, adoption, adaption, appropriation and invention defines how teachers toil painstakingly to bring out the best in using technology in the classrooms. Their attitudes, practices and integration behaviors also account for its success. With these, we can also consider the four essential components for effective technology integration: the resources used, the role of the teacher, the nature of the instructional activities and the role of the students.
