Communication has been an essential tool in teaching through the years. Through effective communication, knowledge is being imparted in students’ young minds thoroughly, but how is it going to be effective?
Effective communication does not only involve correct grammar, appropriate loudness of voice, proper composure or any other thing. It is considered as a skill and requires mastery in order to correctly perform it.
First, a teacher should be able to unlock difficult terms in the lessons. A student must be able to understand every single detail that is included in the discussion. Enabling them to define a particular thing will help them cognize better; thus, helping them to memorize more.
Second, a teacher must be able to make his students comprehend. They must be able to respond to the teachers’ questions. The teacher must know what the students have learned and if not, he must use appropriate techniques to resolve problems in comprehension.
The process of communication requires vast repertoire of skills in listening, observing, speaking, questioning, analyzing and evaluating.
Communication is a complex process, it does not only involve a single procedure in executing it. It must be a two-way process wherein the speaker and listeners benefit from each other and must not solely rely on having everyone absorb whatever is imparted.
Applying it in a typical classroom scenario, the teacher must encourage every single student to participate in discussions to express his/her thoughts regarding the lesson or if ever the student does not understand a particular part in the discussion, he may freely ask the teacher.
The teacher, on the other hand, will be able to find glitches wherein it opens a room for improvement to her on her upcoming lessons.
